You may have notice a few of our members have started taking the warm-ups for us on occasion. Why is this?

Well a few months ago we selected five individuals that have shown an extraordinary passion for CrossFit and an interest in coaching to undergo our Advanced Theory Course. Individuals who have been dedicated and consistent in their own training. Individuals who have grown over the time they have been with us, and have come to be friends to many of you, and above all, individuals that we trust and respect.

These five have gone through rigorous training with myself and Jane. I personally have put in a lot of effort to handing over the knowledge I have gained over the years. This is a step up the ladder that I was never given.
Jane has spent many hours with them, getting each to apply what they have learnt in a class setting and given constant feedback along the way. On top of this we are giving these individuals access to training from some of the best minds in the industry and we are already seeing great results from each of them.

As with everything in life, experience is the real key to going from good to great and that is why over the next couple of months, we will be bringing each of them into the class environment and they will run parts of the workout, warm-up, etc. Until we are happy that they are ready to take on the role of Coach at CrossFit Waimakariri.

So I hope you will join me in welcoming our interns, and hopefully, soon-to-be coaches;

Sarah Jones – CrossFit Waimakariri’s longest member, she has grow with us from our first day in half a garage and no equipment. She has been though more with us than anyone else and has seen all of my mistakes along the way.

Janelle Pulley – Has also been with us for a long time, well over two years, in that time she has gone through a lot of adversity but has always remained consistent and always had a thirst for understand what we are doing and why. Constantly questioning why.

Matt Joli – Matt is a relative newcomer compared with Sarah and Janelle, but that hasn’t stopped him from picking up a heck of a lot, in a very short time. Another person for a thirst for knowledge and absolute consistency, Matt has quickly become a well known face here.

Hayley Whiting – Hayley showed up here not long ago but very quickly became a legend. Hayley has been CrossFitting and Olympic weightlifting for some time and we were stoked when she chose to come to our gym. She is very knowledgeable, very experienced and great fun to have around.

And Ewan Hall – Unfortunately for us Ewan is extremely busy and has chosen not to Coach for us, for now, that’s not going to stop me doing an intro for him though. The first time I met Ewan, I saw a guy who was a CrossFitter, singlet, beard and tattoos, he just didn’t know it yet. Ewan has progressed more than most, the first workout I put him through, I remember him stopping part way through to have a drink and check his phone. That would NEVER happen now, he is dedicated and a joy to have around.

So obviously the big question is, “But Coach, what the hay, I only come here because you’re so awesome, does that mean I’ll see less of you?”

Well, hopefully not, I love training you all and that’s going to continue, what it will mean is that myself and Jane will start having time to work on the gym and make it even better, we have big plans and big plans need people to drive them.

I think you will agree that this is going to be a great team and their training, as with my own, is ongoing. So next time you are in class, say Hi and give them your support because they have all been put through a lot of work to get where they are now.
