Kirsteen Watt, from Edinburgh, Scotland
I needed to do something different, I was originally an RPM’er (spin class) and a cyclist and I’d been doing that for 5 years but I was getting bored and wanted to do something different and more challenging.
CFWM: Who or What do you look forward to most when you come to CrossFit Waimakariri?
Kirst: Haha – that’s a trick question! Haha! I do look forward to the variety- it’s always something different. The challenge- because it’s always something challenging. I like the partner workouts on a Saturday, they’re quite fun.. And I like the support! Not just from the coaching staff but from the more experienced members who give you encouragement. and help. Its a very supportive and inclusive environment with everyone celebrating others successes, big and small.
CFWM: What’s your best PR or CrossFit moment?
Kirst: I was really excited when I nailed 2 double-unders– but lifting more than I weighed was probably the other one!
CFWM: What’s the most personal thing you’re willing to share with me?..and with the whole box really?
Kirst: I have a webbed toe and one kidney. Born with both.. I didn’t find out until I was 20 that I only had kidney.
CFWM: Either Or’s, Which do you prefer? Tea or Coffee:
CFWM: Burpees or Box Jumps:
Kirst: Oh, box jumps, give me box jumps.
CFWM: Eggs or Pancakes:
Kirst: Ooooh.. Probably pancakes. But it’s a close run thing.
CFWM: Mullet or Rat Tail:
Kirst: NEITHER! Mullet, I guess.
CFWM: Active Wear or Jeans:
CFWM: What’s The Best Concert You’ve Ever Been To?
Kirst: There’s been a couple– I went to Counting Crows when I turned 40. I went back to Scotland without my family and went with my best friend…Neil (husband) and I went to Foo Fighters here and that was amazing!!
CFWM: What’s The Craziest Thing You’ve Ever Done?
Kirst: Probably moving over here.. That would be one of the craziest things we’ve ever done. Neil and I came over here with our backpacks- not knowing anyone, on a one-year visa, found a job and stayed- it will 18 years in June! Other than that it would be bungee jumping- which I’d never do again, just quietly.
CFWM: If It Were Possible, Would You Own A Pet Dinosaur?
Kirst: If So, Which One And Why? Hell yes! There’s so many to choose from– everybody wants a T.Rex but they’re so big.. Velociraptors are so smart and Christ Pratt did such a good job at training them…… Oh! Let’s go with a Pterodactyl– and I’d want to fly it. If I can own a dino, I want to train it and ride it.
CFWM: What is your New Year’s Resolution?
Kirst: I actually don’t think I’m going to have one this year! I would say drink less but that’s never going to happen.. So no. I’m not going to have one!
