I’ve been reading a lot lately, in fact, I always read a lot; Articles, research papers, more articles, text books, more articles. But lately, I’ve been reading a lot of books on changing habits. One that has really developed the way I think about things is called “The One Thing.” The premise is simple, ask yourself one question and then concentrate your efforts on that answer, forsaking everything else.

The book talks mostly about work and business but describes applications in everything, including health and this is what got me really interested. The question is simple; “What’s the one thing I can do, so that by doing it, everything else becomes easier or unnecessary?”

I love the question and I love that it can be moulded to any situation. Add in time and context and you have a question that you can use to focus on the things you need to do instead of the myriad of tiny things that comes with everyday life.

What’s the one thing, I can do TODAY, so that by doing it, everything else becomes easier or unnecessary FOR MY HEALTH? Once you have an answer, it becomes easy to see what you need to do to move forward. Do you need to find a training partner or someone who can keep you accountable? Do you need to clean out your cupboards of snacks? Do you need someone to help you figure out what that one thing is with you?

So what is that one thing for you?
